Jamie Ferrare is the immediate past-president and a senior consultant with Academic Search, Inc. Dr. Ferrare is in his ninth year with the firm, having joined Academic Search in 2000. He has led searches for presidents, academic vice presidents and deans in public and private colleges and universities as well as church affiliated schools and independent liberal arts and fine arts institutions. Prior to joining Academic Search, Dr. Ferrare was dean of the school of education at Drake University. As dean, he successfully enacted what he taught in his faculty role, that of associate professor of leadership and adult development. While at Drake, too, Ferrare led a string of successful searches for university administrators, faculty members, and high-profile school superintendencies. His tact, diligence, and general smartness about search have won the high regard of his Academic Search peers and the gratitude of clients.
Prior to his deanship, Ferrare was a faculty member and assistant dean responsible for policy development, budgeting, and student support. Before coming to Drake, he served as associate executive director of the School Administrators of Iowa and as associate superintendent of schools for the West Des Moines Community School district. He also has taught elementary and middle school.
Dr. Ferrare has a long record as a consultant in strategic planning, performance assessment and organizational development. In addition to his work with colleges and universities around the country; he has facilitated programs for diverse organizations including the American Council on Education (ACE); the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) and the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC). Other consulting work includes organizations such as Brenton Bank, the Alameda (CA) Chamber of Commerce, the Minneapolis Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Iowa Democratic Party Central Committee, the Iowa Republican Party Caucus, Principal Financial Group, the Greater Des Moines Leadership Council, the Iowa Bankers Association, and the Iowa College and University Financial Planners Association.
Dr. Ferrare earned his B.S. in education and his M.Ed. in reading and education from the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. His Ph.D. in educational administration is from Iowa State University.
