Dr. Parilla

Before joining Academic Search, Dr. Parilla served for 20 years as president and CEO of Montgomery College in Maryland. Montgomery College is a three-campus community college enrolling 22,000 credit students and serving Maryland and suburban Washington, D.C.  Previously, he held administrative and faculty positions at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio which is a charter member of the League for Innovation. He served as Cuyahoga’s “League Representative” for two years.

Dr. Parilla has served several colleges as a consultant and evaluator for the Middle States Association and the North Central Association. He was a visiting scholar at Homerton College of the University of Cambridge in England. He was recognized by Washingtonian magazine as a "Washingtonian of the Year" in 1996 for his work in building college-community relations and for enhancing professional relations among diverse constituencies within the institution. Dr. Parilla is the author of many articles, papers, and book chapters, including publications on trusteeship, faculty scholarship, and the importance of technical education. He chaired a statewide committee of educators and legislators on the Future of Maryland Community Colleges and was recognized by the University of Texas as one of fifty transformational leaders in American Community Colleges. Dr. Parilla’s other awards include CEO of the year of the Northeast region of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), the Educator Achievement Award of the National Science Foundation, and the Isaac K. Beckes Award of the National League of Nursing.

Dr. Parilla is a member and he chairs the board of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, and is in the chairmanship rotation for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. He previously served on the board of the Maryland High Technology Council, the Education and Human Resources Directorate of the National Science Foundation, of the Montgomery County Economic Advisory Council, the Commission on Higher Education of Middle States Association, the Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation, and Associate Degree division of the National League of Nursing. He served on three panels for the Academy of Science in the areas of Mandatory Retirement, Federal Student Financial Aid, and Allied Health. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Department of Education Policy, Planning and Administration.

Dr. Parilla holds academic degrees from Kent State University, the University of New Hampshire, and Florida State University and did additional graduate work at Brown University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
